2020 Varadero Half Marathon and Wellness Retreat

March 27 - 30, 2020 (4 days)

Join us for the 2020 Nomder Yoga Running Wellness Retreat in Havana and Varadero, Cuba. We have been leading wellness retreats to Cuba since 2016.  
 
After several years planning, in April 2019, Dr. Stephen Redmon finally met with Mr. Alberto Juantorena in Havana to discuss using road races and yoga to foster engagement and support for the Cuban people.
 
Varadero, Cuba is a beautiful beach and resort location for the three running events - Half Marathon, 10 km, and 3 km (People’s run/walk).

Itinerary - March 27-30, 2020

Day 1 - Friday

  • Arrive between 11:45 am -1:00 pm
  • Clear immigration, customs, and collecting your luggage at José Martí International Airport in Havana
  • Depart for Casa Alaffia (Nomder Yoga Retreat, Havana, Cuba).
  • check-in begins at 2:00pm.
  • Welcome reception snacks, Arrival celebration, lunch, and orientation.

Day 2 - Saturday

  • Healthy breakfast.
  • Tour of Old Town Havana. 
  • Depart for Varadero. 

Day 3 - Sunday

Varadero Half Marathon,
10 km, & 3 km - RACE DAY
-Let the race begin! Early this morning after a light breakfast, we’ll go near the starting line for a team photograph.
-After the races, return to the hotel to freshen up, relax, and enjoy the afternoon meeting and talking with Cuban runners. 
  • Depart for Havana in late afternoon.
  • Arrive Casa Alaffia.
  • Farewell Dinner
  • Visit Havana at night and Jazz/Salsa (TBD).

Day 4 - Monday

  • Breakfast 
  • Depart for airport
  • “adiosito”

Stephen T. Redmon, PhD, JD

Stephen is a Harlem, NYC born and raised Holistic-Therapeutic Lawyer who served in the Army and federal government for over 30 years. He uses a variety of trauma-informed yoga and meditation paths to humbly and compassionately serve people seeking improved wellness and health while coping with life challenges such as trauma, addiction, tension, and stress. Stephen is a non-judging Christian who uses an evidence-based, open-minded, customized, universal love approach to meet individual and group needs to improve wellness and achieve optimal performance. Mr. Alberto Juantorena

Alberto Juantorena is the only athlete to win both the 400 and 800 m Olympic gold medals, which he earned in 1976. He was ranked as world's best runner in the 400 m in 1974 and 1976–1978, and in the 800 m in 1976–77, and was chosen as the Track & Field News Athlete of the Year in 1976 & 1977. Juantorena has served in many official capacities, including Vice President of the National Institute for Sports, Physical Education and Recreation for Cuba. In April 2019 Juantorena met with Stephen Redmon in Havana to discuss Nomder Yoga Wellness and support for the 2020 Varadero Half Marathon, 10 km, & 3 km. Nomder Yoga is the first U.S. yoga and wellness organization to coordinate a retreat to support the Cuban people at this Varadero running festival. (Insert link to Juantorena from from Wikipedia).

Fatima Nefertiti Ford


Fatima Nefertiti Ford, RYT-200 (May 2019), CEO, Wellness Is Life, LLC. She is a SomaVeda Traditional Thai Yoga Massage Therapist who expertly infuses Kemetic Yoga (YogaSkills) and naturopathic therapeutic processes into powerful healing experiences that are individually customized to promote immediate and long-term wellness. Fatima practices various holistic modalities such as Auricular Therapy, Sujee Korean hand therapy, EFT Tapping. She studies Judo, Karate, Yi Ji Jin, and is a runner/power walker.

Airfare

As of May 1, 2019 roundtrip airfares to Havana, Cuba from US cities on the East Coast range between approximately $550 to $950 roundtrip. Airfare varies depending on the airline, schedule, and originating airport – start looking and booking the best fares as soon as you decide to join us. A non-refundable transferable deposit of $500 per person is due at registration to reserve a slot.

Balance/Full payment is due by November 15, 2019.

Waiting List

Due to the superb quality and demand for the Nomder Yoga retreats, a waiting list will be maintained for people who attempt to register after the retreat slots are filled.  We will contact people on the waiting list as retreat slots become available.

There is no cost to be placed on the waiting list; however, if space becomes available prior to November 15, 2019  you will need to pay a non-refundable transferable deposit of $500 with the full payment due on November 15, 2019. If space becomes available after November 15, 2019, you will need to pay for your registration in full upon registration.

Military & Veterans Discount

5% Discount

for Active-Duty Military, Veterans, and immediate military/veteran family members.
